In helping our small to medium business clients, we discovered that installing the latest version of Dell Data Protection | Security Tools (1.12.0) on Dell workstations with the latest version of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (v.10.0.15254.124, 1709) will cause a no boot condition in Secure Boot mode.
The root cause is a conflict with with Windows 10 integrity checks on legacy signed kernel mode drivers.
We found that Windows was failing to boot because of the driver Sedfilter.sys, a component of the Dell Data Protection Suite. There was a similar issue reported earlier this year with Windows 10 Secure Boot and Dell Data Protection | Encryption v.8.7.1 and earlier which was resolved by installing Microsoft KB3081448 but it seems that there is an issue now with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and the latest version of Dell Data Protection. We suggest, that if you are not using Dell Data Protection | Security Tools, to uninstall it or if Dell Data Protection | Security Tools is pivotal to your organization's security, to not update to the Fall Creators Update. We know that a lot of business organizations utilize Dell Data Protection for their endpoint security and to temporarily gain access to the computer again Secure Boot must be disabled.
